The
“Grant” Loaf. A tasty, simple, “no knead” recipe from the 1940's that
was invented by Mrs Doris Grant. Very tasty with a hearty soup or great as toast. This is easy to prepare and cook. You need a loaf tin, or if you have not got one of those try lining a suitably sized flour pot with baking parchment. A popular Welsh tradition, that produces a round loaf!
500g
Wholemeal bread flour
1 1/2
teaspoons "muscavado" (soft brown, but any alternative will do) sugar
1 1/2
teaspoons salt
1
teaspoon easy blend yeast
425 ml
hand-hot water
∙ Mix
the dry ingredients in a large bowl
∙ Add
the water
∙
Mix
to a smooth but sticky dough
∙ Spoon
into greased & lightly floured 2lb/900g loaf tin
∙ Cover
with a damp tea towel or oiled cling film & leave in a warm place
to rise for 30 mins, or until within 1 cm of top of tins
∙ Preheat
oven to 200 C
∙ Bake
loaf for 40 mins
∙ Cool
on wire rack.
