The “Grant” Loaf. A tasty, simple, “no knead” recipe from the 1940's that was invented by Mrs Doris Grant. Very tasty with a hearty soup or great as toast. This is easy to prepare and cook. You need a loaf tin, or if you have not got one of those try lining a suitably sized flour pot with baking parchment. A popular Welsh tradition, that produces a round loaf!

500g Wholemeal bread flour
1 1/2 teaspoons "muscavado" (soft brown, but any alternative will do) sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon easy blend yeast
425 ml hand-hot water

Mix the dry ingredients in a large bowl
Add the water
Mix to a smooth but sticky dough
Spoon into greased & lightly floured 2lb/900g loaf tin
Cover with a damp tea towel or oiled cling film & leave in a warm place to rise for 30 mins, or until within 1 cm of top of tins
Preheat oven to 200 C
Bake loaf for 40 mins
Cool on wire rack.
